Why do some Wilmington streets work while others don’t?
We’re meeting to discuss Part 1 of Jane Jacobs’ classic, The Death and Life of Great American Cities. It’s a straightforward look at how neighborhoods actually function on a sidewalk level.
The Discussion
We’ll be talking about:
Sidewalk Safety: How active local shops and neighbors watching the street keep a block safer than cameras do.
Daily Connections: Why small, daily interactions with neighbors are the "glue" that holds a city together.
Parks and Spaces: Why some public spaces thrive while others stay empty.
The Philosophy
We are Strong Towns Wilmington. We don't care about "big-picture" master plans that take 20 years to see results. We care about small, incremental changes that make life better today. We believe our city should be built for the people living in it, not just the cars passing through it.
Strong Towns Book Club
No need to be a professional or even have finished the chapters. If you care about Wilmington, you’re in.
